Fragrance Oils vs Essential Oils in Candles: What's the Difference?

When you compare fragrance oils vs essential oils in candles, it's easy to assume "essential" means better. The reality is more nuanced.

Essential oils

Essential oils are concentrated extracts from plants, pulled from flowers, leaves, bark, or peels by steam distillation or pressing. Lavender, eucalyptus, and orange are familiar examples.

**Pros:** plant-derived, with a natural character many people love.

**Cons:** many are expensive, and some are very volatile, meaning they evaporate quickly and don't hold up well to a candle's heat. Candles scented only with essential oils often have a lighter scent throw. Some scents, like pumpkin, vanilla bakery notes, or a salted margarita rim, simply don't exist as essential oils.

Fragrance oils

Is one safer?
